This page gathers the lunch-price figures computed from the LounasOpas dataset for the whole of Finland. They are based on the lunch prices restaurants publish themselves, and every figure is printed with the number of restaurants behind it.
The median lunch price is 13.40 €, computed from the latest known lunch price of 2,588 restaurants.
Half of the restaurants fall between 11.50 € and 14.00 € (lower and upper quartile).
Buffets account for 95.1 %. The buffet share is computed over the 792 restaurants whose lunch type is known.
The dataset covers 2,588 restaurants across 176 municipalities.
† For areas with fewer than 5 restaurants the median is indicative: it is listed with its restaurant count, but left off the map’s colour scale.

Share of the area’s distinct dishes, computed from 100,378 distinct dishes, with the share of restaurants that served at least one beside it. A dish counts once per restaurant per week, and one dish can carry several labels – so the shares do not total 100 %. Vegan also counts as vegetarian.
Dish labels come from 2,752 restaurants.

What is measured: the weekday lunch price a restaurant advertises itself – one price per restaurant, not per dish. Prices are as published, VAT included and not adjusted for inflation. Each restaurant contributes its latest price from the past 90 days.
Price band: only lunch prices from €6.00 to €30.00 are counted. Below that lie subsidised student and staff canteens, above it à la carte lunches. No further outlier screen is applied: the median and quartiles are used precisely because they withstand extremes.
Scope and bias: this covers restaurants LounasOpas knows of that publish a machine-readable lunch price – not every restaurant in Finland. The dataset covers 2,588 restaurants across 176 municipalities; coverage is uneven, so the national figure follows the best-covered. Below 5 restaurants a median is indicative; quartiles need 20.
Sources and duplicates: chains and groups publish one price list for several locations, and some feeds advertise the week’s highest price. Some prices come from third-party lunch directories, not the restaurant’s own page; both counts are in the download. Near-identical listings at one address count once.
Buffet and dish types: the buffet share counts only restaurants whose lunch type the source states; the rest are left out, not counted as not a buffet. A dish counts once per restaurant per week however often it is served, and shares are of distinct dishes, not of mentions – one dish can carry several labels, so they do not total 100 %. Vegan also counts as vegetarian; gluten-free and lactose-free are allergen markings, reported separately.
Corrections and reuse: the figures are recomputed continuously and may be revised. Reuse is free under CC BY 4.0 with LounasOpas credited; the data downloads as CSV or JSON. Corrections are welcome.
